Southern food at it's best! The restaurant is in an authentic farm house on a back road south of Huntsville. I consider myself a pretty good Southern cook, and I find most meat and threes disappointing! Grandmother's House does Southern the right way.

Some of the other reviewer's have been giving you plenty of information about the restaurant. Read Jonah's remarks for she expressed it well. I gave them a 5 star based on their extraordinarily good catfish, other entries, and their friendly atmosphere. We felt right at home. It was almost like eating at a friend's home. The catfish fillets were large, hand sized fillets. Often, catfish restaurants serve the small fillets and often these small fillets are deep brown and the meat is mushy . I'm told the deep brown color is because the oil is old and needs changing. I loved the well seasoned cornmeal breading, the large size of the fillets, the fact that they were lightly golden in color, and most important to me was that the meat was not mushy but instead it was firm more like a redfish. This was a grade "A" catfish dinner. Delicious. Catfish does not get any better than this. All 6 of us enjoyed our selections. The service was excellent. Members of the family who own's the restaurant came out to check on us and spent a few minutes visiting with us. It was a very enjoyable experience.

Lowering from 4 stars to 2. I first heard of this place when the owner was on Chopped. She was very impressive and I fell in love with her on the TV show. Visited the following weekend and loved the ambiance, but the food was a bit disappointing. The dessert was inedible. Second time there today... And may be last. Her business increased after her appearance on Chopped, and her prices increased. However, the quality of her food took a mega nosedive. Veggies tasted canned. Meatloaf was "meh"/wouldn't order it again. Chicken livers are overly breaded and overly fried. Pot roast beef was tough. Appears that she is really cutting corners now to meet her increased customer base. Today's dessert of spice cake with rum sauce looked so horrible that it wasn't worth trying. Wynona, we love you and your restaurant. You can do so much better. Please.

I'm from Southern California visiting my Mother who lives just a half mile from this nice white old home and I was pleasantly pleased. The restaurant is actually old home converted into a restaurant. It's cute, has charm and character and is off the beaten path. The menu here changes a bit weekly, so depending on the day you go some items may or may not be on the menu. I up loaded a photo of my Chicken Liver lunch. I went out side the box and ordered something I would never choose to order, nor have I ever seen on a menu in California. I had the fried Chicken Livers, and I have to say... honey child, they were - outstanding! The crunch on the outside was GREAT... real tasty and the livers were not over cooked and dried out, but remain tender. Wow, I loved them a lot. I can't remember when I had such a great, well made, fried "crunch" on something before. It's addictive... I give it a "A" The Mac and Cheese wasn't bad ( it gets a " B-") and the potato salad (it was called "baked potato salad...I wasn't sure why) and fried okra were enjoyable as well (they both get a " C+"). For dessert, I tried the "Fried apricot pie". You may know what a fried pie is, but I never heard of it. It was like a "Baked turnover" to me. I enjoyed it and I give it a "B". Everything is home made here, you can tell. Over all, they have a good southern menu to choose from, but I could grow as big as barn if I came here every day. Don't think about counting calories or points here if you are watching your weight. Unless you run into your friends from Curves eating here with you, don't tell them you ate here. Because it's a sinfully good place to go when it comes to good, well made southern comfort food.

Great for country southern food, but nothing exciting and extraordinary here though. You could still make country/southern extraordinary...but some of this taste "canned" and ordinary.

Me and the family went there for dinner a few nights ago. It's a very homey place. Great friendly staff... Sat down got our drinks and then asked of then ordered our food immediately. The food came in about 10-15 minutes. Not too bad. The sweet potato fries were kind of still raw. And everyone's mashed potatoes were cold. Most of us got the country fried steak. That was pretty good. Really crispy and a generous serving with what it seemed to be homemade white gravy.
